MOLHOL® CB is an organic compound also known as Chlorobutanol with the molecular formula C₄H₇Cl₃O. It occurs as a white or almost white, crystalline powder or colourless crystals, sublimes readily. Chlorobutanol is used in pharmaceutical formulations as an antimicrobial preservative, particularly in certain ophthalmic preparations, to help limit microbial growth.

(A) A yellow precipitate of iodoform is produced.
(B) The separated pyridine layer becomes red.
(C) A black precipitate is produced.
3 Appearance of solution A 50.0% w/v solution in ethanol (95%) is not more opalescent than opalescence standard OS2 and not more intensely coloured than reference solution BYS5.
4 Acidity Not more than 0.1 ml of 0.1 M sodium hydroxide is required to change the colour of the solution.
5 Chlorides Not more than 500 ppm.
6 Sulphated ash Not more than 0.1%.
7 Water 4.5 % to 6.0%.
8 Assay Not less than 98.0% and not more than101.0% of C4H7Cl3O, calculated on the anhydrous basis.

PACKAGING

MOLHOL® CB is packed in HDPE bag or HDPE drum with double PE liners inside and is provided with a barcoded label and a tamper-evident seal.

SHELF LIFE, STORAGE AND PACKING

The shelf life is 3 years. Preserve in tight containers.
